The Colored Sky
On 26th of March, 1802, William Wordsworth wrote "My Heart Leaps Up". It is a short, lyric, romantic poem. The day after he wrote "My Heart Leaps Up", Wordsworth began to write his more ambitious "Ode: Intimations of Immortality". The last three lines from "My Heart Leaps Up" are used as an epigraph to "Intimations of Immortality". Some scholars have noted that "My Heart Leaps Up" indicates Wordsworth's state of mind while writing the larger poem and provides clues to its interpretation. The poem is a unique example for ecocriticism.
The poem contains several literary devices; each one plays an important role in describing the nature. William uses them in a different and special style. First, the poet personifies his heart as a man who leaps to transfer his happiness to the readers. Then he repeats, using anaphora, the word "so" three times to illustrate how he feels the first time when he sees the rainbow. Also, how he wants this feeling to last until he's dead. In the sixth line, there is a hyperbole and rhetorical question to reveal that the emotions are so significant in his life. The poet compares, using metaphors, the child with the man who will be a father as we all were children once; so, according to this a child, we can be a role models. He utilizes all the literary devices to create a vivid image of the rainbow.
Wordsworth discusses through "My Heart Leaps Up" many themes. Those themes were the nature, childhood, beauty and aging, but the most prominent themes is the theme of nature and beauty. Each literary element in the poem exists to serve the demonstration of the importance of the relation between the beauty of nature and human. The rainbow symbolizes fundamental ideas, and one of them is hope. Moreover, it signifies the passage of a storm of turmoil and suffering and that what will come is better. It is reassuring that what gave him happiness, satisfaction and being comfortable as a child will still give him the same feeling. The poet in the poem demonstrates by that the beauty of nature, and that it is an essential thing in his life. Through that he wishes the death, disappearance of the rainbow.

In conclusion, in Wordsworth's "My Heart Leaps Up", there is a great example for Ecocriticism. All the literary devices in the poem refer to the relation between the beauty of nature and the individual. The nature has its own magic in the poet's life. It reminds him with childhood pureness and joy.
It's beautiful how authors tend to use nature to appeal to the emotions of us humans. No matter how rigid, a person softens ones they are met with the beauty of earth. Therefore, connecting feelings and emotions to the environment is a great method used by Wordsworth to engage the reader in this literary work of his.

Moreover, it further has an effect on human’s feelings and emotions and involves the use of the five gestures which emphasizes the strong bond and attachment.

DeleteI enjoyed reading this poem because I felt like I can relate to it, and your interpretation is awesome. I think that Wordsworth involves many natural elements in all his poems. Maybe he believes that a man should enjoy it deeply, and I believe so too.
